My Muse is in The Driver's Seat

Under-painting and writing freely

On countless occasions, I have been asked where I get my ideas from, and if I plan out my artwork to the finish line.
The simple answer is that my springboard may be the subject matter, but what happens after that, is entirely entrusted to my muse.
 I am inspired by the smallest of things. I might see a pattern, hear a sequence of words, have a feeling, spot something odd, and so on. Those things will carry me to a starting point.  
I live for the unexpected.  Colors, textures and random words drive without rules for a while. This is my way of energizing my spirit and my substrate. 
 As my muse starts connecting with the nuances of what I'm seeing and feeling in the moment, colors start taking-on symbolic meanings and textures, lines, and values start "dancing" together to emphasize shapes. 
In the end, I juxtapose the abstract (my creative muse) with the representational (my subject matter and what I want to say about it).
My current work is all about current events, from climate change and endangered animals to social political issues and emotional states, and how technology is infiltrating all levels existence.

​The act of repetition itself is a vital process and expression visible throughout all my work. Borderline obsession because it’s in the act of repetition where I feel most reflective”, in a meditative state, in the rawest of places.

​I have no interest in replicating what I see. What excites me as an artist is to interpret what I see, combine it with what I know, how I feel, and what I have to say.

This type of work requires viewers and consumers of my work to be very open-minded. To ask questions and hopefully illicit thoughts that may be new and unexpected. Odd colors and other unusual design combinations may encourage the viewer to ask lots of questions or start a conversation.* [why is the artist using these colors? What do they mean? Why are these shapes placed in this way? What's the purpose of the clusters of symbols?*]
I truly think that being different and unusual opens the possibilities of shedding new light in compelling ways.
If you usually gravitate towards representational work,  I would encourage you to open your mind, and truly take the time to look at new, non-traditional and unexpected approaches. You may be pleasantly captivated!
