Inner Alchemy of Higher Self: With Conviction
Acrylic & Ink on Archival Paper
19x39 (individual size)
This piece is one of 5 works which took me on a journey to explore the strengths and weaknesses of my own convictions and what they look like in my alter ego.
The year of the pandemic gave plenty of time for contemplation.
This polyptych represents my vision of 5 mindsets and their inner alchemy. Each of the 5 pieces represents a trait or attribute which, as humans, we often judge ourselves against. Upon reflection, I found it quite liberating to free my thoughts, disengage, and step outside the confines of the mind, reinforcing that by just being in the moment with higher self; open, aware, and accepting, judgments and opinions where left out, truly capturing actual essence and attributes.
I infuse my work with bright colors, which inject optimism and reactivate a mindset. I often represent filters flowing through my subjects in tightly organized clusters of symbols inspired by binary code, pop culture, archaic lettering, mathematics, alchemy, and my personal iconography. The symbols and the agonizing process to cluster them neatly represent a way to come to terms with simultaneous realities of connectivity, chaos, and conflict between man, technology, and nature.
*The vision for the frames is each piece floated between to plexyglass sheets and hung using chrome stand-off screws.
