Original Painting-Sentenced Plight
48"x36" Acrylic and Ink on Gallery Wrapped Canvas with Finished Edges (No Frame)
\This piece is informed primarily by caustic human behavior determining the ultimate fate of turtle species. Trash disposal is the number one issue, next to erosion, poor fishing practices, and confusing environments. Most trash reaches the seas via rivers, and 80% originates from landfills. All too often, sea turtles mistake trash for the creatures that they prey upon. Approximately 85k get trapped every year in fishing nets. Finally, nesting beaches are disappearing due to new developments eroding beach sites These circumstances are a direct threat to turtles and their future survival.
The white background pigment symbolizes the disappearing safe environments and the straight, cage-like lines represent their slow sentence to vanishing forever if we don’t get our act together.
Bright colors and gold reference hope and are elements I often incorporate into my work for good measure.
