January-December, 2024. Exhibiting schedule
An exhibition featuring 72 new works in collage and assemblage "The act of piecing together fragments left in the wake of social injustice, natural disasters, urban Encroachment and all that is breaking us apart, is a labor of love and a form of prayer for our survival. Aside from repurposing fabrics that will avoid the landfills, each collage and assemblage is a nod towards finding our common threads so we can exist in unity and humanity."

PRESENTING THE ART OF COLLAGE AT MINT MUSEUM, MINT-TO-MOVE EVENT
Collage Series I
COMMENTARIES Click HERE to view series These small, thoughtful and original collages are emotional responses and commentaries directly informed by current events. Subjects like climate change, natural disasters, polarization, displacement, dissociation & emotional states are of particular research. The materials I work with are carefully curated for each piece. I layer fabrics, yarns, and ephemera which inject interesting colors and textures to complete the story. I was invited to demonstrate the art of collage-making during the Mint-to-Move event at Mint Museum, Charlotte. The idea was to create a piece in reaction to the international eventing of music, food and people from all walks of life. When completed, the collage included words and reflective elements os the viewers could ponder and reflect themselves as to where they each stand in the world of multiculturalism. |
ASSEMBLAGE PROJECT
COCCI, BACILLI, SPIRILLA 9x3 Hanging Assemblage Canvas, glass, inks, acrylic For full details, click HERE Note: This piece was created 2 years before Covid This awareness piece is informed by bacteria causing epidemics and pandemics affecting all life on the planet. It only takes one single bacterium to start a colony. This piece hangs the 3 basic bacterial shapes in golds and reds representing healing power and blood which is life. They are hanging in a waterfall-like assemblage and Interspersed among them, hang large pieces of glass dripped with red and gold ink. To detect disease, blood smears are microscopically studied. To obtain smears, uncomfortable labs take place for diagnosis. The glass literally represents blood smear slides as well as dualities of life’s resilience and fragility. Interlocking bacteria shapes come together in this piece to represent their ability to organize. The waterfall-like effect represents the force and magnitude of how some diseases can take you down quickly and ultimately terminate life. On the other hand, it can also represent the strength and power to organize of good bacteria to override disease and save life. |
ASSEMBLAGE PROJECT
HALCYON MOMENTS 9’ x 3' hanging assemblage Acrylic, gold leaf, fabric For full details click HERE This piece captures instant, serendipitous moments to quiet the mind from current social, political and environmental news. It was a chosen state of being, made by the pure act of creating, untethered by rules, judgments, requirements and expectations. A meditative exploration. 3 different sections are defined by a variance in pattern. Looking from the bottom and slowly moving upwards, space slowly opens-up and, vice versa, as you move downwards, spaces close-up. This is representative of feelings in fluxus and the journey is very different for each person; one can slowly open-up to arrive at a higher self or the other way around, one can close-up and stay locked-in one place. The state of being is a choice and manifests in different ways and only you, the viewer, really know your choice and why. |
PUBLIC ART PROJECT - A CSA Grant Commission
URBAN CHAOS 50-8x8 Panels, Acrylic, glass, recycled plastics, shells, inks For full details click HERE My initial idea was inspired by Charlotte’s treasured tree canopy. However, my work is often created in response to something happening in the moment, so this project quickly and relevantly evolved into capturing the urban chaos I was seeing and hearing about, day in and day out. |

LIFE INTERWOVEN: CONSTITUENTS OF CHANGE Wood, acrylic, glass, wire, resin, 10’ x 27" x 29" This piece honors minute moments: infinitesimal changes in the DNA sequence and fleeting random experiences with people which in one moment appear insignificant, but whose impact is so great that life’s course is forever changed. Names of people who changed lives in big ways were contributed by 50+ online participants and are interwoven throughout. |

AWARENESS PROJECT
FLIRTING WITH OBSESSION Bringing Awareness about rice 48"x60" (diptych) Rice, Glass, Abalone Shell & Acrylic on Canvas This piece was originally inspired by an aerial photo of rice terraces located in China. I identified with the repetitive patterns shaped by endless lines and gorgeous colors. I researched a bit and found out that the glorious palette of colors are actually reflections of their particular surroundings and constantly change as your visual angle changes-there is no color in the water. Terraced farming is intertwined with its surrounding ecology, covers vast amounts of land and even to this day, uses traditional practices of massive, ritualized human effort. While rice terraced farming is sustainable and green, I found out that it requires huge concentrations of people to work them, conditions of living are nearly inhospitable and their existence is restricted by necessity. I, now, look at a bowl of rice quite differently. Obsession, as defined in the dictionary, is “an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person's mind”. Flirting is defined as “To deal playfully, triflingly, or superficially with” So, I titled my piece “Flirting With Obsession”. A lyrical interpretation, paralleling regimen with complete freedom, and randomness. I use fun, bright colors, patterns and endless curvy shapes that represent my initial reaction to fun patterns and bright colors, but as you look further, you’ll find ordered patterns and rough surfaces which symbolize the reality underneath all that beauty. |

INTERACTIVE PUBLIC ART
Permanent Installation: Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. CHROMOSOME 15q21.(1) Bringing Awareness to Marfan Syndrome Metal, Oil, Wood - Interactive Public Art This particular piece is meant to be interactive. It is dedicated to all those born with Marfan Syndrome, a congenital disease affecting 1 out of every 10,000 people, I, being one of those people, celebrate its gift with this piece. “Chromosome 15q21.1(1)” represents how a minute shift in our genetic make‐up infuses giant leaps of change in our lives. The imagery is anatomical in nature, primarily symbolizing cardiovascular system, inside the arteries, depleted of connective tissue. The kinetic element of rotation each square has, represents the minute changes than can occur at any level in a chromosome during the cell division occurring after conception and parallel, in my view, with minute instances of experiences we all have which have affected our lives in life-changing ways. The institutional white and chrome elements represent the antithesis of a healing setting, yet this sterile environment saves our lives. The blue colors represent the transcendence taking place while in survival mode. Blue is also a very spiritual, healing color for me so it was an obvious inclusion on my part. **Donated by Tina Alberni to Dr. Cameron at Johns Hopkins Hospital in February of 2011. “Thank you Dr. Cameron for saving my life. May this piece serve as a constant reminder of your dedication, knowledge, character and humility so priceless to me, my family, my friends, and any life you touch.” |

URBAN GRID ENERGY MATRIX
Acrylic, oil, paper, adhesives, ink Bringing Awareness to to the price our health pays for our our global connectivity Through this particular body of work, which I titled "Urban Grid", I explore our global inter-connectivity and attempt to depict how all life is now forced to coexist with millions of “invisible” lines of wireless networks beaming through everything at all times. I hope to spark a dialect that brings balance to the price we each pay, willingly or unwillingly, for this precious connectivity we’ve come to adore and depend on, knowing full well, that our physical well being can suffer negative effects. I use colors inspired by inca textiles, an element present throughout my upbringing in South America and still very stimulating and ever present. Materials I use: Collage elements, acrylic, oil, cold pressed papers. I explored this concept in several works I developed. See more HERE |
