Our country is constantly proclaiming how much "better" it is than most of the world, yet when it comes to animal rights, we are nearly at the bottom of the "totem pole". The cruelty and disregard for sentient beings is abhorrent, apathetic and unnecessary.
"Over the last half-century, science has eroded the boundaries between humans and other beings — from cows and pigs to squids and crabs — demonstrating that animals can experience joy and suffering. Knowing this, Singer says, we are ethically bound to avoid causing them pain.
